Packing List for Crew
For your visit on board I suggest that you bring following items…
required gear
These are essential. We can improvise with stuff on board, but ideally you should own and bring:
- good, complete rain gear (jacket + pants)
- headlamp
- gloves
- bonnet / buffs
- sleeping bag or blanket
- dry bag (ideally for all your luggage / at least for delicate gear)
- money for return trip
- mojo
nice to have gear
Bring these if you have, but don’t bother buying them if it’s just for your crew role:
- neoprene (wetsuit)
- flip flops or water shoes
- water bottle
- knife (with serrated blade, for cutting rope)
- GPS watch (read coordinates, course + speed on your wrist, record tracks)
- smartphone / tablet
- inReach satellite messenger
- monocular
- sextant
- climbing shoes (if we encounter nice climbing spots)
- sour dough
- money for pizza
Rather bring 2 pairs of light, fast-drying shoes than 1 pair of heavy boots. Feet will get wet anyway. Better to have a dry pair while the other pair is drying.
recommended apps
Install these on your smartphone / tablet if you have time:
- Telegram
- Windy (the red one, free version is good enough)
- chartplotter / sailing app (Orca, Boating…)
- OsmAnd (download offline maps for our planned cruising area)
- PeakFinder (great to identify and simulate visibility of islands and mountains)
- Google Maps (download offline maps…)
- Google Keep (shared shopping lists)
- MirrorControl (remote access to onboard chartplotter)
don’t bother
Following equipment we have on board for crew - you can save that weight and leave your own at home:
- life vests + life lines (several)
- fins (1 pair)
- diving mask (2)
- helmets (2)
Note that we operate 230 V only on demand. Ideally your electric devices should run / charge on 12 V or USB, which we have plenty and always-on.
